My first meal.... It was freakin huge!! But they had real Ketchup and American mustard and I was in heaven!! (I only got through half the burger, if that)

Really wanted to try these but the peanut butter ones kinda put me off! I did get Cocoa Puffs but.
The supermarkets are so weird, they have pharmacies, banks and they sell alcohol!! Bizarre!! Its so nice and warm though

A couple of years ago there would have been no way that anyone would cut my hair without me knowing exactly what they were doing! If a hairdresser cut more than I wanted off there would be tears!

same-sex marriage rally

Saturday marked the day of the same-sex marriage rally here in Sydney. At least 1000 people marched for equal rights for same-sex marriage. It was amazing to see so many people gay or straight who turned out to fight for and have their voices heard about a basic right that other Australians enjoy!!

I took a couple of photos on my iPhone while we were marching from Town Hall, up Oxford Street to Taylor Square. It is the same walk as Mardi Gras and the same walk that was taken on the very first Mardi Gras which was not so much a celebration but a protest march against the ban on gay sex.

Will Anderson was the MC for the rally and was absolutely hillarious! All in all it was a great day and it was awesome to be a part of it! Lets hope that the future of Australia includes equal rights for all Australians!

I'm soooooo excited!! A couple of days ago I booked my flights etc for my trip to America. My folks decided to take the family on a 2 week holiday to Hawaii so I decided to extend the trip and go over to Vegas afterwards. Then from there I'm driving to San Francisco and then driving down to L.A. All up i'm going to be away for a month!!
I can't even contain my excitement, I have only ever been out of the country once in my life and that was to New Zealand when I was 12.... so it's been a while!!
I'm really looking foreward to the driving part (on the wrong side of the road) I'm going to check out Yosemite National Park and Alcatraz, Universal Studios and Disney Land, San Diego Zoo.... I don't know how I'm going to fit it all in!!
CAN'T WAIT!!

Actuall had a night off last week, courtesy of a friends birthday and Gill djing at Purple Sneakers. Went to Mad Pizza in Darlinghurst for Stefan's Birthday, followed by drinkas at Nevermind, then off to the Gladstone for Purple Sneakers coz Gill's set was at 2.
Photographer Maja Baska was there taking pics all night, here are just a few.....

Sadly, as I found out the following morning that my friend whos birthday it was had been punched out on Oxford Street right outside of his birthday party at Live. Apparently this guy just came up to him outsde the club and punched him in the face and he hit the pavement. He ran after him follwed by security guards from Live and the surrounding clubs.
I can't understand the mentality of a person who can to cause physical harm to another person, what gives them the right?!!
Luckily my friend is ok but it makes you seriously think about how safe the gay community really is even on Oxford Street!! and it also makes me think how stupid that guy was to think he could get away with hitting a gay man on Oxford Street.... Hello!!!!

Hey hey sorry it's been a couple of weeks, things have been crazy! I was really sick (which sucked) then I was working so much that it seemed all I was doing was eat, sleep and work! And let me tell you the sleep part was very minimal!!

Anyway just a quick note to say.... I GOT MORE BRAS!!! YIPPEE... and show you all the new stuff that was just sent to me from dimitySO.

So I know I have mentioned the Sydney Film Festival in my blog already but I have to tell you about this film I saw as part of the festival and that I hope gets a general release here in Oz.

The film is "Women without men" by Shirin Neshat. I was totally blown away by this films honesty and brutality. I went with friend of mine who worked with a guy in the philippines who was Iranian and a film maker and was exiled from Iran for making communitst films and was previously jailed for making these films. I think having known of someone in that situation made the film even more powerful for me and also being in the arts myself and thinking of what it would be like if I was told I could never sing or act again and if I did so I would be jailed or exiled never to return again to my country or my family.

I've just attached below a message from the film maker about the film, please if it does get released here, do yourself a favour and watch it, it's heartbreakingly beautiful.

"Women Without Men captures a pivotal moment in the summer 1953, when the hopes of a nation are crushed by foreign powers in a tragic blow that led to the Islamic Revolution of 1979. Thirty years later, as we look at the young men and women protesting in the streets of Iran in the face of ruthless brutality, we are reminded once again that this struggle is alive and well. I can only hope that Women Without Men will make a small contribution to the vast narrative of Iran’s contemporary history, in reminding us of the voice of a nation that was silenced in 1953 by powers both internal and external and that has risen again." - Shirin Neshat

So last night as I was watching season 2 of true blood (amazing by the way) I get a phone call from my friend Tara quite excited telling me I was on TV!
My reaction...... Huh?? Clearly I had no idea what she was talking about, you think you'd remember shooting something for TV right?!!
Then she started talking about my serial killer alter ego and I realised what she was talking about... the 'Deadly Women' epp I shot for Foxtel. So of course the TV was imediately turned the Ci channel and there I was, my entire face taking up the screen in black and white wearing my short black curly wig!! Sooooo bizarre!! I had forgotten all about the fact it was airing here at some point, seeing as I shot it like a year ago!!
Anyway thought I'd share.... check me out in all my serial killer glory (or not seeing as she was a real person and did actually commit these crimes... but you catch my drift)

Sydney Film Festival Time!

So I lost my job last week courtesy of the pub I was working at being sold!... It happens I was a bit upset but moving on....
My old boss from the theatre I used to work at calls me and asks if I wanted some work for The Sydney Film Festival. Of course my answer (considering my current jobless status) was YES!!

Obviously it got me intrigued about what was showing as part of the festival, so I checked out the Festival guide in the Herald. There are some awesome films, docos and silent films with live music happening in venues across Sydney.

Going home

So I haven't been home in a while, well to my family home anyway, so I went home the other day. I live in the city and work in the city so I'm kind of used to the noise and the traffic and the busyness of the city so going back home was a strange experience. Where my family live is quiet, secluded, slow paced and peaceful. It was so weird, I couldn't sleep!! And in the morning I was woken by my 3 chooks, dusty, yoko and eddy outside my window scratching around in the garden and clucking like crazy! Strange how you adapt to things that you never normally would have thought you could.

So my best friend just came back from the Phillipines after working as a model and an actor there at Bigfoot studios for 6 months. She joined a new modelling agency before she left.
She has been over there for so long and I missed her like crazy but she has done some amazing work while over there and I am so insanely proud of her!!
Anyway, she got back to Sydney and rang her agent and went in to see them after being away etc. First thing they say to her was that they need to take some more shots of her because she looks different than her shots in her look book then they did her measurements. They tell her that she has put on weight around her hips and has gained a bit of weight while she was away and she will need to lose it!!!
When she called me and told me this I was soooo angry! If she lost any weight at all she would look really unhealthy and malnurished!
Being a bigger person and formally an obese person, it makes me so angry that modelling agencies are still forcing their models to be uber-skinny. It has and continues to create such a bad image for young girls to try and live up to. And not only that Its an impossible image to live up to.... even my very thin best friend has trouble!! My best friend was so excited to have a little more meat on her bones after struggling to put on weight for many years and was also really angry when they told her she had to lose it!!
I don't think I will ever understand the mentality behind this super-skinny image that is used in every clothing, shoe, make-up etc campaign. Haven't companies realised that that image is not what the majority of people find attractive or appealing anymore. It makes me so mad that people like my best friend are made to lose weight to fit their idea of beauty and the image of a "model"

I think she is beautiful and doesn't need to lose any weight what-so-ever, what's wrong with these people? Can someone please tell me........?

A dear and beautiful friend who I've known for about 19 years is struggling with Crohn's disease at the moment and will continue to struggle until a cure is found or even an effective treatment. She is such an inspiration to me. Her strength and her unwavering positive attitude absolutely astounds me!
So I wanted to dedicate a blog to her to let her know that I think she's amazing and that I am always here when she needs me, but also to raise a bit of awareness of Crohn's disease. Whenever I am feeling bad or like giving up I think of my friend and remember that there are people out there with far greater problems than mine and that I really have nothing to complain about.

OMG I got my DimitySo shipment of Bras today!!! They are amazing!! I'm so excited to wear them! I have never in my life had this many bras all at the one time!
I'm such a 2 bras at a time girl and then replace them when they are falling apart! Now I actually have choice, this is awesome!!!
Can't wait for these to hit the stores, you guys are going to go nuts for them... YAY!!!

This week has been a hectic week so far. The play that I was stage managing, 4play, closed on Wednesday. It was on for the Mardi Gras season at Slide on Oxford Street. I had an absolute blast working on this show, great cast, great crew, amazing venue and some great new Australian theatre.
We only had 7 performances but we played to amost packed houses every night. This is the first time that Slide have done theatre in the venue, they usuallly do dinner cabaret shows and Drag shows but this was their first dinner/theatre experience!! If you have never been to Slide you should definately get along to see El Circo or Claire DeLune in her new show starting next week.
Our charity sponsor for the event was ACON (Aids Council of NSW) and all the procedes from our preview night went to ACON and each night the audience have the option of buying desert after their meal and a portion of that went to ACON and each night we did a bucket collection at the end of the show for ACON.
After the show on Wednesday night we presented ACON with a giant (novelty) cheque for over $6000!!!
It felt so great to know that we were able to raise that kind of money for such an amazing organisation who do so much for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer community and the wider community who suffer from HIV and AIDS and also providing eductaion on prevention and support services.

So I had an amazing weekend.... Mardi Gras 2010 was absolutley amazing!!
I got to watch the parade for the first time this year (thankyou work for the night off) and it was awesome!!
So many people in amazing costumes! I dressed up too (any excuse right!!), heels were a mistake but it was fun none the less! I wore short shorts for the first time in like 10 years (big step for me).... eeeep!

I had and interesting conversation with my best friends mum last night about being your true self. She was saying that you can't really live your life until you are honest with yourself about who you are and stop trying to be what everyone else always wants you to be.
It got me thinking a lot about myself and what I change about myself in order to please other people.
I'm getting ahead of myself. Lets start at the beginning....

I haven't always been the person or the size I am now. Over the last 2 years I have lost about 30 Kilos with the help of Lap Band surgery.
I was always a big kid, very sporty and active, but still big. It didn't seem to matter what I did to lose weight it never worked and the amout of exercise I was doing was only maintaining my weight.
After high school I went to uni and stopped doing a lot of the sports and extra activities I was doing all through my school life and I gained a lot of weight. In fact at my biggest I was 109 Kilos!!!
I tried so hard to lose the weight I had gained while at uni and nothing was working. I had been to the doctor and they had done all the usual tests for things that can cause obesity, yep I was classified as morbidly obese!
Because there was no medical answer as to why I wasn't losing weight it was assumed that I just wasn't working hard enough and not eating right etc etc.
I was so depressed and frustrated and angry that I conducted a little experiment. I went to the gym everyday it was open for a year, I ate well, I had a personal trainer for some of that time and I only lost like 2 Kilos!!!
Can you imagine? All that hard work and effort for next to no result.
I went back to my doctor and insisted, after telling my story, that they do some more investigation.
It was actually my mum who found an article about Polycistic Ovarian Syndrome that described me almost perfectly that got the ball rolling. I went and got a series of tests for the syndrome and I was dignosed. FINALLY an answer!!
After that there was medication and special diets for the disorder, which I followed for a while, but got fed up with pretty quickly!! I was studying at drama school at night and working full time during the day and just didnt have time to prepare special meals let alone try to eat 6 times a day. That was when I made an apointment to go and see a specialist in Laparoscopic banding and the rest is history.
I have had the band for 2 years and lost around 30 Kilos. It hasn't always been easy, I had to basically change the way I ate. I can now only eat about a handfull of food at a time, a regualr main meal can sometimes take me up to 2 hours to eat (makes going out to dinner intersting at times), so I usually just order entrees, and I get hungry more often as my stomach is now 1/3 of the size it used to be.

So going back to what I was saying before about my conversation with my bf's mum, all my life I think I have been wanting to lose weight to please other people, either my parents, my friends, the people who used to make fun of me... It was never really something I wanted to do. And believe me all the different diets I did were not fun as a kid either! I used to have to take my Jenny Craig food to school with me, talk about embarassing!!
It wasn't until I got older and made the decision for myself and my health etc that I have really been able to find out who I am and what I want out of life... not that its all figured out of course I am only 25! But for the first time in my life I am coming out of my shell and finding the person who has always been in there but has been hidden for a long time.
A big part of this process has been talking about my experiences with other people. If someone who I haven't seen in a while asks me how I lost all the weight I tell them. I really want more people to be aware of Polycistic Ovarian Syndrome and that the number of people who have it is actually quite staggering. It effects different people in different ways, which is what makes it difficult to diagnose sometimes.
And also from my own experiences I want people to start to think before they judge people based on their appearence. I know what it feels like to be looked at like you're nothing. I know what it feels like to go shopping and have the people who work their look at you like you don't belong in their store. And I know the shame I felt about buying clothes in a "plus size" store or section (although I always refused to do so).

I hope that through this campaign everytime any of you who read this look at my poster around town, remember my story and that you can't judge a book by its cover, because covers change!!

So you know how sometimes you forget that your parents were people before they were parents?? Well I had one of those moments today. I went to the Powerhouse Museum to see the 80's exhibit. So you walk thru this tunnel and then thru some hanging plastic curtain and into the first part of the exhibit. I walk up to the first tv/computer screen I see and its playing old TV ads from the 80's. So I stand at watch them thru and there's an old smarties ad I remembered and then this ad for Tooheys starts playing. Its footage of some guys rowing surfboats and racing etc. They come to the closeups, like afterwards in the clubhouse or something, and I see a familiar face. It was my dads best mate, then I recognised another face, then another then I scream out to my friend "Thats my dad!" I had no idea he had done the ad (obviously) and I had never seen it coz I was born in the mid 80's, so was way too young to watch it let alone remember it. I couldn't believe it, definately never expected that. LOL

Hi everyone,

So I am a first time blogger and I'm kind of excited but also might take a little while to figure this all out! So sorry about that.

Obviously I'm Nat and I'm one of 3 girls chosen for Bendon's new line called DimitySo. I can't wait for you all to see the line, the bra that I was wearing for the shoot I think was one of the most comfortable bras I've ever worn..... and it fit!!!
Now if your like me and are in your 20's and have a big bust then you know that there aren't a lot of options out there when it comes to buying bras, at least not nice ones! So I hope you all will check out the range.

A bit about me.... I'm 25, from North/West Sydney and I'm an Actor/Singer. Definately not a model!!! But I do like to talk... A LOT!! Hence the reason I called my blog "Nat's random ramblings"
Thats what I thought was great about this campaign, they didn't look to modelling agencies to cast the job! They looked to Facebook, My Space, Blogs and friends all over the country and New Zealand to find us.

I'll post a little more about myself later and of course other random things I get up to!
